On May 30, Kim Young Kyun, Senior ESH Technician for Monsanto Korea and Japan, provided a safety training session to local elementary school students near the Jochiwon R&D Center. This school, located in a rural area, has only 67 students.
The program focused on safety in the children’s daily lives, both inside and outside of school. Some of the components of the program included:
- Vehicle safety that students should keep in mind on their way to school
- Why and how students should sit with good posture and the importance of stretching during and in between classes
- Field safety required

Nearly 200 FFA members from eight area schools attended the annual FFA Training Day recently at Riker Farm Seeds, one of three Ohio DEKALB®/Asgrow® training sites. The event featured learning stations on ag business and agronomics and was co-sponsored by Riker Farm and DEKALB/Asgrow. This is the fifth year that Diane Zyski, District Sales Manager, has been a leader of the FFA training day.

Monsanto’s outreach to communities worldwide is more than just a company value. It goes beyond the company’s partnerships and industry efforts. In fact, sometimes it comes from just one person. Zellipah Githui is that person.
During the past two years, Githui has returned to her village in Ngorano, Kenya, from her job at Monsanto to help improve the lives of farmers and their families. She spent her own money, along with contributions from Monsanto employees, and provided hybrid corn seeds, fertilizers and the services of an agronomist to 16 female farmers in Ngorano.

In 2009, an alliance between Fundación Moises Bertoni (FMB), The United States Agency for International Development, and Desarrollo Agrícola del Paraguay (DAP) implemented the Alianza para el Desarrollo Sostenible de San Pedro Norte project. This project allows 500 poor families to be trained in better agricultural practices, technology development and implementation, and access to financial markets, among other activities.
