FFA Ag Sales

FFA: Nurturing Seeds Called Young People

My name is Greg Wildhaber, and I am the FFA Ag Sales coach from Dayton, Oregon. Four students from Dayton, a small farming town with one blinking light, are $1,000 richer because of Monsanto. And, also because of Monsanto’s continuous contribution to the FFA and Ag Sales Career Development Event, thousands of FFA students across the United States are enabled to start a career as salespeople in agriculture or many other fields.

The real life skills they learn when preparing for the Ag Sales Career Development Event, are invaluable to further themselves, as well as creating a career path for … Full Article »

Ag Education: It’s More Than Learning Where Chocolate Milk Comes From

By Megan

Although I may not wear my FFA jacket as often as I did four years ago, I still feel the power of the blue and gold and the importance of agriculture education programs. Four years ago I was serving as the Illinois FFA State Secretary where I traveled over 33,000 miles in one year across Illinois promoting agricultural education and the FFA. Throughout my year in office, I was surrounded by many passionate and influential educators and business men and women who all cared deeply for the FFA and agricultural education just as I did.

The question I … Full Article »

How the FFA has Impacted Monsanto Employees

National FFA Week is upon us, and it’s a great time to celebrate the contributions that past members have made and current students are making. At Monsanto, we have hundreds of employees who are FFA alumni. This week, I spoke with four Monsanto employees about their FFA experiences and how the organization has had a lasting impact on their lives and careers.

Michele Grevie, who works at Monsanto’s Woodland facility and is an alumna of the Woodland High School FFA Chapter in Woodland, Calif., said she got involved in FFA because of her family’s ag background.

Blue Jacket Pride

Who knew the FFA was so cool? I certainly didn’t, growing up in suburban St. Louis where my high school had 1,500 kids but no FFA chapter (or any agricultural education, for that matter). I didn’t even know that farming—or agriculture—was a career option.

But now, agriculture is hot because of a renewed interest in where, how, and by whom food is produced. This week’s USA Today reports on urban FFA chapters. According to the National FFA Organization, 34% of their members live in urban or suburban areas. The story profiles an urban St. Louis FFA chapter at the … Full Article »

Focusing on the Future – Ag Youth Today

By Tyne Morgan

The National FFA Organization is one that is dear to me. In fact, if you took a look at my resume, each item on there could be linked back to FFA. Whether it’s the skills I gained through being involved in FFA or just the experience itself, FFA taught me a great deal and helped shape me into the ag communicator I am today.

Originally, I joined FFA to gain brownie points with my father. He’s an ag teacher, and I knew he wanted nothing more than for his children to get involved in FFA. But FFA … Full Article »
