Let’s End World Hunger

Last year was a milestone year for raising awareness and advancing a global dialogue about the challenge of doubling food production by 2050 to combat hunger and malnutrition and meet the needs of a fast-growing population. Recent attention paid to the birth of the 7 billionth human on earth did much to help drive this global conversation. But looking ahead to 2012 and beyond, our challenge – in fact our imperative – must be to translate this momentum into action.

Monsanto’s Annual Shareholder Meeting

Today was the annual shareholder meeting for Monsanto Company. I’ve been to several of these before, both here at Monsanto and for other companies. I can remember the first one I went to… it really didn’t match my expectations. I’m not sure what I expected – maybe something like the excitement in “Mr Deeds.”

World Food Prize Dialogue Focuses on Next Generation

With World Food Day on the horizon, hundreds of people gathered in Des Moines, Iowa for the World Food Prize Symposium. Started by Nobel Laureate, Norman Borlaug in 1986, the World Food Prize recognizes individuals for their efforts to increase food production globally through innovation in agriculture. The 2011 symposium, called the “Borlaug Dialogue,” placed focus on “The Next Generation: Confronting the Hunger Challenges of Tomorrow.”

Monsanto chairman, president and CEO Hugh Grant was among the hundreds of leaders consisting of heads of state, farmers, researchers, international agricultural leaders and others participating in the event.

Attending the BSR Conference

I’m not quite sure how to describe the experience of being in the company of about 1,000 people from around the world who are recognized as leaders in sustainability and corporate social responsibility both in the business world and in the world of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Monsanto’s Hugh Grant Named one of the World’s Best-Performing CEOs

The Harvard Business Review (HBR) has selected Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant as one of the world’s 50 best-performing CEOs. The list is included in the January/February 2010 issue of Harvard Business Review. Grant comes in at number 10.
