Safety is a strong value within Monsanto’s culture. It is important that our employees are trained to practice safety on and off the job. The Monsanto Mojokerto Off-The-Job Safety (OTJS) team in Indonesia shared several examples of how they prepare their employees, families, farmer customers and the local community members for safety preparedness.
FIRST Aid Kits for Home Emergency Preparedness: To increase awareness and preparedness of employees for any emergency situation at home, the team promoted their Home Emergency Preparedness program. More than 100 employees received a FIRST Aid kit.
Mask Awareness and Distribution (for Volcano Eruptions): After the eruption of Mount Kelud on Feb. 14, the OTJS team organized a visit at a local school to increase mask awareness to minimize the impact of the eruption dust. The team also distributed masks to the students and provided extras for their families, reaching around 300 people with their community outreach.
Road Hazard Recognition Series: During training events in Jember and Bonjonegoro, East Java, the OTJS team encouraged farmers to start practicing the recognition of road hazards to help minimize or eliminate accidents by showing examples of road hazard situations, prediction of potential risks, actions to avoid accidents, and how to share safe driving tips. Between the two events, the team’s training reached 2,775 farmers. The team conducted a third training at a local school near the site, which reached nearly 340 students.
Seasonal Flu Awareness and Vaccination Program: The OTJS team works with a medical services provider to conduct awareness of vaccinations for adults and influenza vaccination for employees. During the event, employees are informed about the importance of vaccinations, the types of vaccinations recommended based on age. A total of 48 employees received training and an influenza vaccination.
Fire Safety for School: The OTJS team conducted a classroom training and hands-on practice session instructing 283 students how to extinguish a fire using a fire extinguisher and blankets. The training included understanding the fire, the correct usage of extinguishers and the concept of PASS.
