Monsanto Waterman bowling teams raised $3,567 for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters (BBBS) of DeKalb County, Illinois at the BBBS “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” event. With a company match, the total raised was $7,134.
“This was a unique effort because it included all Monsanto sites in the Waterman area, and as a united front we were able to do a lot more than we would if we were to do it as an individual site” said event co-organizer Misiker Mandefro, laboratory operations supervisor. Heidi Kelly, research associate, also was co-organizer.
More than 20 employees and their families participated in the event, a new undertaking for the Waterman sites.
“The Waterman sites are spread out within a few miles of each other and we recognized the opportunity to join forces and make greater impacts in our community through outreach initiatives” Mandefro said. “So we’ve established a community outreach committee with all of the Monsanto sites in the area, including breeding and manufacturing organizations, where we take on a project on a quarterly basis. We’ve also developed a teamsite to enable communication, scheduling and ultimately to promote volunteerism and connect people from various organizations in the area.
“We’re doing some good things.”
