Honors for Two Young Monsanto Employees

Two young Monsanto employees received special recognitions recently.

Doug Hubner, general manager of Monsanto’s Hubner Seeds business, has received the 2010 Future Giants of the Industry Award from the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA). The award is given annually to recognize leadership, innovation and commitment to the seed industry.

Cited for his passion, dedication and foresight, Hubner – whose father and grandfather founded Hubner Seeds in 1972 – is known for leading by example. Richard Hines, executive vice president of Indiana Design Consortium Inc., nominated Hubner for the award, and had this to say of his nominee:

“Doug leads by example. He puts the success of others ahead of his own and is prudent in the conduct of his personal and professional affairs. He set a course early in his career that is sure to bring the highest levels of seed technology and potential value to the growers he will serve.”

A couple of states away, Staci Schmitt was named Young Alumni of the Month by Iowa State University.

Schmitt, who works as a seed research assistant for Monsanto in Independence, Iowa, is a 2006 graduate of the university. Her work involves maintaining seed corn research plots, collecting data throughout the farming seasons and leading the site’s employee safety program.

Her advice to current students: network and do an internship.

Congratulations to both Doug and Staci.
